This obituary remembers Professor Florence “Flo” Levy, a pioneering child psychiatrist. Born to Jewish immigrants in Perth, she studied medicine at the University of Melbourne and initially trained in anaesthesia before switching to psychiatry at Yale. Levy returned to Sydney, worked at Randwick Children’s Hospital and later led the Child and Family East unit at Prince of Wales Hospital. She authored hundreds of journal articles and books, became a world authority on attention deficit disorder and championed a scientific yet humane approach to child psychiatry.
